First, understand that the federal minimum wage is really a sliding-scale for where benefits kick in. The lower we allow employers to pay their employees, the more it costs civil society to support those same employees, as We the People won't allow our fellow Americans to starve (at least, in theory).

Frankly, if your business model calls for paying your employees dirt wages, you should probably develop a better business model.
